Update: Angry (Briefly) Hospitalized

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

October 9, 2023

Some of you might have noticed some messages suggesting I have been in the hospital. And that is true. Last week, I was admitted to the hospital for a couple of days following a visit to the Emergency Room. I returned to the Emergency Room over the weekend. I am now home and recovering. Unfortunately, something is wrong with my heart. It seems to be a very minor thing right now — and I’m healthy, but very run down — but it is going to require some follow ups and exams until I know for sure precisely what is going on. Which is kind of scary. It sucks that this comes immediately on the heels of my saying I was back on track.

Fortunately, I’m healthy enough that I can keep working, though my schedule will be sporadically interrupted with tests and doctor visits for a bit. And losing several days to the hospitalization — and recuperation — has set me back a fair bit. I will continue to check in and keep you all updated on both my work and my health, and I am working to get the next article out, but if I miss a deadline by a few days here and there, please be patient with me.

Thank you.

  1. I am so sorry that you have to deal with that. Being sick, especially when it’s something scary, sucks. I just want you to know how much I appreciate you, and the body of your work. You have forced me to think differently about how I run a game, how I interact with my players and how I can create true immersion. I know they’re are a lot of “how to” youtubers, podcasts, critical roll etc, but I only go to you because you touch on the things that made me love this game in the first place.
    Feel better soon.

  2. Take all the time you need to get back on track. Cardiology is always scary, but at least it’s minor and picking it up earlier means you can work your way through this. Best wishes and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

  3. Best wishes man. You’ve given us so much over the years, a few lost days (or weeks, or whatever) is no problem at all. Hope things improve.

  4. I usually read your blog posts after comments have been closed, to be “current” is nice for me but the news is indeed dire 🙁

Hope you are feeling well, I am also going trough some stuff with my Dog (heart issues) so I know how you might feel about this news… Hopefully for humans the solution is better and you will be back on your legs as soon as possible. Get well!

    Greetings from Romania

  5. Take care of yourself and best wishes on your recovery. Even if it means you have to change to the mildly-irritated GM we look forward to having you back hale and whole.

  6. Angry, as a nurse, I would be really happy to volunteer as much help as remotely possible — translating doctorese into English, health coaching, tips & tricks for condition management, etc.

I know health has been a war for you on and off for several years, and it’s not good to have to fight alone. Let me know!

    • I appreciate the offer. I have excellent support from medical professionals, I’ve been living a reasonably healthy lifestyle for years, and I’m quite knowledgeable. Just keep reading my shit and cheering me on. That helps.

  7. Take care of yourself. I understand working makes you feel normal when you feel helpless with your health. Make sure you do it in as restful a way as possible so your body can do what it needs to heal. We’ll all still be here when you’re ready.

  8. Not much of an interactor but I’ve been following your stuff for upwards of five years now – it’s made significant changes to the way I DM and in some ways, my everyday life (I’ve picked up quite a few of your book recommendations over the years, especially those on social matters). There’s a few of your articles that I consistently recommend to anyone just getting into DMing!

Sending well wishes and I’ll be sticking around for as long as you are! Hope things get better soon.

  9. Focus on your health!
    Everything else can wait!
Great recovery for you and try to keep scary meanwhile you do not know (yet) what you (might)!
    Best Regards!
    Fabio

  10. I’m praying for you hardcore. Rest up, heal up. Too bad we don’t have any of those pretend-elf heal-everything-and-then-some potions we could send your way… right?

    Maybe: “Not-Quite-As-Angry…”? “Five-Degrees-Less-Angry”?

(You did me and my aspiring DM a solid and I won’t forget it. First good game I actually got to play in over a decade.)

  11. Hey Scott, I hope you get well soon. Have you considered listening to Rife frequencies and healing binaural beats? You could try Sapien Medicine on YouTube, for instance. Leave no stone unturned in you journey to total health, bro! Best of wishes.
