The Angry Weekly Update: January 22, 2024

January 22, 2024

Hello and happy Monday…

Kinda sorta.

As I promised last week, I’m providing a weekly status update and I will continue to do so until such time as I consider myself back on track. What’s the metric for being back on track? What’s the goal? What are my priorities?

  • I must be publishing four Features per month.
  • I must be published one Feature per week on Wednesday of that week.
  • I must record a Proofreadaloud for each Feature for my supporters for simultaneous release with the Feature.
  • I must have published the first True Campaign Managery lesson, thereby launching that series.
  • I must have published the first Angry Hack, thereby launching that series.
  • I must be publishing one Club Slapdash Post for my Frienemy-tier supporters per week on Friday of that week.

When I can say I am doing all of those things, I am back on track. Until then, I am not. And I will continue to report on my progress each week toward those goals.

The order I put them in isn’t accidental. That’s my priority order. And it’s also the order I’ll be working on things. If I ain’t on target to hit my regular, weekly Feature release schedule, I am not worrying about anything lower down the list. Hence, as important as it is for me to get Angry Hack’s launched, it’s not so important as to allow it to derail getting on a regular release schedule first.

This month, I am on track to deliver four Features. That’s despite the fact that there’s been some ongoing hangups. And provided I do so, I will also be on track to publish every Wednesday, starting with January 31, and then February 7, and so on. The next goal is to ensure I’m also recording Proofreadalouds in advance enough that they can be remixed and published on Wednesday with their features. Which requires me to get just a little ahead of the game. Then, I worry about working True Campaign Managery and Angry Hacks into the rotation. Then I can resume work on Slapdash.

Last week, I said I wasn’t going to screw myself over by committing myself to hard, fast, overly optimistic, aggressive deadlines. So it would be really stupid of me to say something like, “by the end of February, I won’t be doing these updates anymore.”

That said, I am technically, still working on putting a bullet in the first point. As of today, I have published by one Feature in January. Which means I owe you three more. My goal this week is to publish two Features: one on Thursday and one over the weekend. At least, it’ll be done by the weekend. I may hold off on publishing it until Monday. I fully intend to record Proofreadalouds for both and I do intend for one to launch the True Campaign Managery series, but given that there are only nine days left in January, I have to play the topics by ear right now. As always, I would rather publish a quality one-off Feature than a rushed Feature to launch a series.

This all got complicated, last week, by the fact that, as the owner of a small-business corporation, I am responsible for a number of tax and compliance filings before January 31 and a few issues with my bank and with my accounting software demanded a lot of attention.

So that’s it. Right now, my top priority is making sure there’s four Features published by January 31. And this week is all about writing, editing, recording, and publishing those Features. And that’s the beginning and the end of the solid promises. Everything else is just hopeful optimism.
