The Angry Update: January 2024

Happy New Year!

I hope all y’all had a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season. Mine? It was a mixed bag. But I did get to visit my family back in New York; that was a blessing. I definitely needed it after all the crap that went down last year.

Last year, I started January with a very optimistic spirit. And then everything went to Hell. While I don’t want to rehash all that crap for the umpteenth time, I do want to learn from it. So, while I’m feeling cautiously and guardedly optimistic going into 2024, I’m going to take it one month and one week and one day at a time.

Truth is, I’m in recovery. Physically and mentally, I’ve been through the ringer. It’s going to take some time for me to put myself back to together. And to remember how to take care of myself. Putting too much pressure on myself is just setting myself up for failure.

While I’m dreaming big — I always dream big — I’m skipping the speech today about everything I hope to come this year. I’m focusing on January right now. And January is about getting back on task. Overpromising can wait until February.

Before I get into the lean meat of this update, I want to thank you all for your support over the past year. It was a rocky one and I didn’t deliver the consistent quality I have in the past, but you all stuck by me. Thank you. And thank you, especially, to everyone who reached out to me with messages of support, holiday wishes, and even gifts. I am tremendously grateful to have such a supportive community around me.

May this year bring you all you hope for and more.

The Big December Eff Up

I done effed up.

On December 31, when I counted up my published articles for the month, I only got to three. For no other reason than simple oversight, I only wrote three Feature Articles in December. I can blame distractions and disruptions and holidays and trips and doctors, but none of that crap matters. What matters is that I screwed up.

If you support me on Patreon on a per-article basis, you didn’t get charged your full pledged amount in December. Which is precisely how it should be. That’s how I like it. I prefer to get paid only for the work I actually do. Mistakes like these are a normal cost of doing business. They happen.

If you support with a fixed pledge amount on Patreon or Subscribestar, though, you did get charged for full pledge amount. If you would like a refund for one quarter of your monthly pledge for the missing article, I will happily accommodate you. Just e-mail me at patron.support@angry.games and I’ll make the refund happen as soon as I reasonably can with no hard feelings at all.

I’m sorry for the screwup and the inconvenience.

January Release Schedule

My goal’s to get back to releasing content weekly and on the same day every week. I’d like to be publishing new content every Wednesday. But January’s a little off kilter due to the holidays, traveling, and some medical appointments.

As such, Feature Articles will be published on Friday, January 12; Friday, January 19; and Thursday, January 25.

The first Angry Hack will be published on Wednesday, January 31.

Live Proofreadaloud Recordings

For reasons I can’t fathom, my Supporters really love my crappy Proofreadaloud recordings. Especially the live ones with the abusive Supplemental Q&As. So, my goal’s to do a Live Proofreadaloud and Q&A for every Feature Article. Not the Angry Hacks, though. They don’t lend themselves to readalouds. Sorry.

Moreover, I’d like to schedule my Proofreadaloud recording sessions in advance so more of you can participate. Really, I’d love to record them reliably on the same day every week at the same time. I ain’t quite there yet, but I can schedule this month’s Proofreadalouds right now.

I’ll be recording Proofreadalouds — Live — on Thursday, January 11 at 3 PM EST and on Wednesday, January 17 at 3 PM EST.

Why only two? Well, one of this month’s Feature’s just won’t work as a Proofreadaloud. And there’s also an Angry Hack coming this month.

January Mostly Monthly Live Chat

I will be recording my January Mostly Monthly Live Chat on Monday, January 15 at 8 PM EST. Supporters with Discord access will be welcome to listen live and participate in the usual Q&A folderol. The recording will be posted for Supporters a few days later.

True Campaign Managery Launches for Real

Finally, I’m launching the crappy follow-up to the much loved True Game Mastery, True Campaign Managery. I introduced the series a couple of months ago, but put it on hold when I was first hospitalized. Expect the first real lesson in a few weeks.

  1. Getting really excited about the return of Campaign Managery! Though I really appreciated all the stuff that came in since the last time, it felt extremely enjoyable and engaging 🙂

  2. Hey angry, happy you’re back on track and feeling motivated!
I’ll never ask my money back.. you deserve this and more. And more than funds you deserve encouragement for your great ambitions: you have the dedication we GM need

  3. Is the Angry Hack still supposed to be the Tension Dice revised rules? I remember you said before that they’re the framework on which you’re hanging several other things.

  4. “I didn’t deliver the consistent quality I have in the past”
Yeah sure, you just delivered one of the best article series ever…

  5. Hi Angey, I read all your articles over 2023 – I came for the great content, I stayed for the brutal honesty! Keep up the good work

  6. Hey Angry, you also didn’t create a bitcoin wallet for donations this past year. This year would be a good time to do that! It’s fast, you can do it in under one hour.

  7. Happy new year and good luck with everything!!
Glad to see you faring better 🙂

Side note: where could I buy a physical copy of TheAngryGm book?

I have a digital copy but I’d like a physical one, I see that drivethrurpg is not an option anymore and I live in Europe, could I get any luck anyway?

  8. While I appreciate the apology I find it unnecessary. My players don’t know it, but they love that I listen to you as much as I can. Hope all goes well for you.
