The Angry Monthly Update: May 2024

May 20, 2024

Today, I realized that, if I wanted to put out a monthly update for May, I’d better do it soon. Man did this month get away from me. And I didn’t want to skip it because I’ve got a bunch of stuff I want to cover. So, let me get to it.

Stuff I Don’t Hate: The Worlds at a Glance Kickstarter

Every so often, I like to call attention to stuff that looks interesting or useful in the gaming space. I used to do it regularly on social media and then by way of a column I called Stuff I Don’t Hate. And I really should get back to doing that.

In that vein, check out the Worlds at a Glance Kickstarter. It’s a pile of tools for building and managing D&D towns, which you probably know is a pet issue of mine. I’ll let the project page speak for itself, but it looked interesting enough that I backed it just to see how it’s doing what it does.

Full disclosure: the project publisher is a new supporter of mine and he did make me aware of the project. I didn’t just trip over this on my own. But, as with all things I plug, I decided it was worth backing on my own based on the project. I have not received any consideration at all for putting your eyes on it. When I asked the project lead for permission to call attention to it in my monthly update, he offered me a special link so I could earn a kickback for referrals, but I refused. So this ain’t advertising.

The Content Release Schedule

You’ve probably noticed my content release schedule has been gradually normally throughout the month. I’ve been regularly releasing Features on Wednesdays and supporters have even been receiving their bonus audio Proofreadalouds on the day of release. Things actually are coming back into balance here at Angry Games HQ. And I’m very jazzed about that.

This week, my content release will be off by one day. The next Feature will be released on Thursday, May 23 rather than on Wednesday. No big emergency here. No disaster. Just a slight adjustment to stay on track. The next Feature thereafter will be released on Wednesday, May 29 without issue.

And man does it feel good to be back on schedule.

The Angry Hacks

There is one benchmark left that I’m coming up just a little short on and that’s the launch of the Angry Hacks series, which I know lots of you have been eagerly awaiting. It ain’t really the designing, it’s just the cleaning up, revising, laying out, and graphical designing. I have a very specific vision for the project and I don’t want to sell it short.

It is something I am actively working on now that my release schedule has been normalized. I can’t hit May 31, but I should be able to get the first out in June and then keep it on a monthly schedule.

Mostly Monthly Supporter Live Chat

The Mostly Monthly Discord Live Chat for supporters will be recorded on Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 PM EDT. Participants will be welcome to ask questions and propose topics. Supporters who can’t participate will have access to the recording a day or two after the Live Chat. Y’all know the drill.

Streaming for Fun

I’ve teased y’all a few times now about the possibility of getting back into some casual streaming for folks who just want to hang out once in a while and some of my community members seemed excited. So I’m gonna take a stab at it. I’ve been itching to re-experience The Return of the Obra Dinn and I have a neat idea for a very methodical exploration of the game to call out every possible detail I can. I’ll need to split it into two streams and it’ll give me something fun to do in the evenings when I’m not live chatting.

So, if you’re bored on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:30 PM EDT, visit The Angry Games Inc. YouTube channel for the first of two streams Returning to the Obra Dinn with Angry as your Cap’n. Anyone can hang out. This ain’t just for Supporters.

Also, I’ve mentioned it before but I do have some long-term plans for actual TTRPG-related video content in the future. But that’s a ways off and I have other irons in the fire. Speaking off…

Club Slapdash: If You Know, You Know

Members of Club Slapdash have been eagerly waiting for this day: work has resumed on the Slapdash Tabletop Roleplaying Game Engine as of this week. And while I’m not putting out firm dates or making firm promises, I am resuming regular previews and design blogs.

On Friday, May 24, you will have something new to read over at Club Slapdash. And I intend to make that a regular, Friday thing.

  1. A lot to be excited about coming up. I’m eagerly awaiting Angry Hacks and news on Slapdash. Congrats on getting back on track!

  2. I feel like I should be saying something more, but conrats is about all I can come up with. Mostly, Congrats is what I want to hear when I’m in recovery and do things to get back on track.

So congrats Angry! And thank you for your honesty and responsible transparency with appropriate boundaries. You set a good example.
