Rawr!
March is here and so I am. Like a lion.
I have no idea what I’m saying.
Anyway…
My schedule has finally settled down. I’m caught up. And I intend to stay that way. Timely releases of articles on time and no more putting off the Tension Dice rules hack. I gotta get that out because so much depends on it, including a Kickstarter launch and a bunch of future hacks related to something that rhymes with Clown Mode.
What’s coming this month? That’s a great question and a perfect segue into the…

What’s that mysterious Slapdash event? Well, it’s a sort of previewy-type alpha-testy-debriefy maybe-questiony-answery thing. I don’t really know. I just know it’ll be my chance to talk about the by-then finished Slapdash Alpha Playtest and what comes next. It’ll be recorded and released for supporters.
And that provides a perfect segue into…
What’s the Deal with Slapdash?
I’ve talked a few times about the Slapdash RPG Engine. I’ve said a lot of random things, but there’s still a lot of confusion and I’m getting a lot of questions. So let me try to clarify a bit, though please keep in mind that there’s some details that I’m playing close to the vest right now and there’s some details that I haven’t worked out.
Slapdash is a lightweight but crunchy fantasy tabletop roleplaying game system I’m currently developing. It is not the big, awesome Angry RPG that’s still well over a year away or longer. It’s a side project. It started in response to the WotC OGL Crapshow back in January and has since turned into a thing.
I envision Slapdash as something the size and weight of Savage Worlds. And I’d like to distribute it before the end of the year. That might not be possible, but it’s my goal. And I’ll keep you in the loop about it. In its final form, Slapdash will comprise a PDF that you can buy at the Angry Games shop.
Sometime in late spring or very early summer, Frienemy-tier Supporters on Patreon and Subscribestar will have access to an Early Access or Beta-Type version of Slapdash they can try. And they will be invited to provide limited feedback. As I iterate the design and continue to playtest with my own secret circle, I’ll update the Early Access version. When Slapdash is finally and completely done, those same supporters will receive that version for free as well. And thereafter, those same supporters will receive periodic bonus content designed for use with Slapdash. This replaces the D&D-specific bonus content I’ve put out in years past as that will become increasingly obsolete as WotC movies toward releasing One D&D and because I no longer feel safe releasing content for D&D despite WotC’s assurances that all is good.
Note, however, that the rules hacks I release publicly will continue to be usable in D&D 5E, including the upcoming Town Mode hacks. I just won’t produce D&D-specific bonus content anymore out of an abundance of caution and because it’ll soon be rendered obsolete.
Meanwhile, I will also continue to share details with my followers throughout the design and development process.
So that’s it. That’s the story of Slapdash. And that’s also what to expect from me this March.
Will the periodic Slapdash-specific bonus content be made available for purchase after a while like the old Theme Packs were?
I’m kind of surprised to see you refer to DBox One as “One D&D” :p
Congratulations on being caught up! Still aspirational for me. :-/
I’m a bit amused thinking about the idea of Clown Mode. You know, Angry, April 1 is just around the corner…
Rhymes with “Clown Mode” you say? I’m glad Angry will finally be writing up a full article on Brown Mold. Get ready everyone.
Great, now I’m going to have to devise a city of Juggalo’s running around and causing chaos… Sounds kind of fun actually… Enter the house of horrors, where the Great Milenko has been tormenting unwary patrons and converting them into his loyal subjects. Clown Mode it is.
I’m pretty sure that’s the plot of most Batman comics.
