A Brief Check In From Angry: May 2025

May 19, 2025

Dear readers, fans, supporters, and friends…

I know haven’t checked in a while and that the site seems to have gone dark. I’ve had short bursts of activity in my Discord server with my supporters, but beyond that, I’ve been totally quiet. Posts stopped moving from Early Access to General Access and Early Access posts continue to appear in content bursts rather than with any kind of regularity. People have reached out to me and received no reply. Comments have speculated that I’ve stopped publishing content for a general audience of that I have died.

The truth is, I experienced a crisis point with regards my to my health. Physical and mental. It’s not something I feel comfortable providing too many details about, but I also want to be as transparent as possible. Especially with regards to my mental health. Mental health issues are nothing to be ashamed over and people need to know that. Most people struggle with mental health issues at some point in their life. Many people experience serious crises. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, that is okay. It just means you’re human.

I am not ashamed, but there are some personal details I don’t care to share with tens of thousands of strangers on the Internet or even hundreds of close supporters. I am under the care of a mental health professional. I am not in imminent danger. But I have had a difficult time functioning remotely normally in the past 45 days. I am coming back to normal functioning now and am catching up.

I am deeply sorry to all of you, especially those of you who have reached out to me and received no response, for going dark for so long. That wasn’t right. I hope you can forgive me and allow me the chance to make it up to you. Meanwhile, if you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis, remember that you are not alone. Many of us have been there. There are resources to help you. If you need immediate help, visit https://988lifeline.org/get-help/ in the United States. I will provide links for other resources in the postscript below.

For the moment, I just want to let you all know that I am alive and that I am working quietly to catch up. You’ve already seen some back content pop up today. That will continue into the foreseeable future.

Thank you for your patience, your support, and your concern. It has meant a great deal to me, even if it seemed like you were throwing it into the void.

Kind Regards,
Scott W. Rehm

P.S.: If you are struggling with mental health issues and aren’t sure where to turn, here’s some resources to look into. Do not give up. You are not alone.

First, for immediate help with a mental health crisis, dial 988 in the United States or visit The 988 Lifeline.

Next, speak to your primary care doctor. They will help you find mental health resources. That’s part of caring for you.

If your life situation makes it difficult to access mental health resource due, visit The National Alliance on Mental Illness. They specializing in helping folks access low-cost resources.

As an alternative to expensive remote therapy apps if your funds are tight, check out Open Path Psychotherapy Collective. They are a non-profit organization that provides access to online therapy for those who can’t afford other avenues.

Finally, if you’re simply facing some tough life challenges and need someone to talk to, consider contacting Stephen Ministries. They are a Christian organization dedicated to helping any and all members of the community deal with difficult life events. You do not need to be a Christian to receive their help. They will help anyone and their mission is simply to listen and help, not to proselytize or convert. They are just deeply kind, loving people — many of whom have struggled with difficult events themselves — who want to help anyone in need and have gone through a training program so they can assist others. I received care from a Stephen Ministries caregiver myself and, at the time, I had not yet turned to Christ. That didn’t matter to my caregiver or anyone I met involved in the Ministry. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

  1. Looooong time reader.

No apologies necessary, just happy to hear you are ok and working to get better.

    Take care, Scott.

  2. We have never met, we have never talked, we probably never will. I rarely post but I just want you to know that you are now and will always be my friend.

  3. I missed your excellent articles in the last month and am deeply relieved you are still with us. As a professional, I also very much appreciate your openness concerning mental health issues – and, as you surely know, you don’t have to apologize if that’s the reason for your withdrawal.
I’m gladly looking forward to catch up the missed articles some day and I take off my hat for your outstanding work here.

  4. For what it’s worth, glad you’re still with us! Hang in there, and best of luck with both your physical and mental issues.

  5. Glad to hear from you again! I’m relieved that you’re alive, and glad to read more of your insightful perspective on RPGs. Your “voice” is the one I hear inside my head most often when I’m GMing, and sometimes even when I’m teaching. Your words and advice /matter/, and I’m always super excited when I get them in my inbox, whether I get to read them once a week or once a month. From some things you’ve said, I know that infrequent and sporadic updates are not the way you like to operate, but just know that I (and most of us Angricans, I’d imagine), are never irritated that you haven’t posted; we’re just really excited to see a new post when it comes through. I am grateful for you, and I’ll be praying for your health going forward.

  6. I thought you must have taken the site to paid content on Patreon or the like and I had somehow missed the announcement. I hope that you’re able to recover quickly and fully (pipedream as we age, I know) and return to the foul mouthed, cantankerous, gem dropping creator we all know and love!

  7. Hi Angry, thanks for your openness, your honesty and your time. I’m a long-time lurker here, and although I’m still very much on the fence with regards to becoming a GM, I always love reading your articles. Not as life advice, obviously, but to be honest you’re one of the most rational and insightful writers I can think of, and that’s not only pertaining to playing pretend elf.
I’m very happy to hear that you haven’t stopped (either working or breathing) and am thankful that you’re getting back on track.
Please take good care of yourself, as that’s the most important thing (which you really don’t need me for to point out, but there you have it).
Looking forward to any and all updates and or articles, but most of all, I’m happy that you’re doing (relatively) well and that you have hope going forward of getting on top of things.

  8. Well I got to read the last article on mechanics multiple times while checking for updates and it helped as a regular reminder. Glhf and read you soon!

  9. Hang in there Angry! I’m sorry to hear you’re having such a tough time right now.

I don’t know if you’ll remember, but you were very kind to me when I had to bail on a project due to a mental health meltdown. I hope you have lots of kind people like yourself around you, because it really made a difference to me back then 🙂

  10. Glad to know you’re recovering. Hope you not only get fully back on, but can look forward to brighter tomorrows. And thanks for everything.

  11. I am a long time reader but first time commenter. Take the time you need to heal. Take care of yourself.

  12. Mucho ánimo. Espero que todo te vaya mejor de aquí en adelante. Tu contenido es lo de menos, lo importante siempre son las personas.
    Un saludo desde España.

  13. Wish you all the best, Angry. The knowledge of pretend games you share creates much good in the universe but it’s paramount that you feel fine sharing it, not forcing timelines and restrictions onto yourself. Take as much time as you need, I think we all understand and support you fully.
And thanks for you randomly arguing with someone on twitter I knew you’re at least alive. That gave me some hope all is not that bad.

  14. You’ve got this, Angry!

Take the time you need, there’s no shame in it and you’ve absolutely earned it. I think I speak for all of us when I say that our desire to see you well and happy is far greater than our craving for more of your excellent work (And that’s saying something).

Do what needs doing. We’ll be here lurking and arguing and having a blast whilemaking terrible GMing decisions in this awesome hobby you write so well about, same as always.

You’re in all my prayers. God bless you and keep you and Mary be with you.

  15. Your writing has a way of resonating with me on a deep level. I appreciate the honesty and authenticity you bring to every post. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

  16. The best dnd content around. Thank you for all you’ve put up, and take whatever time you need.

  17. I’ve never had more respect for an author than I have for you. You have such a unique voice and point of view. I hope you know how important you are–not just to your community, but to those around you. Thank you for the update, Scott, and I wish you a smooth recovery.

  18. Glad to hear you’re still with us! The silence had people worried, like clients searching for a reliable DUI Lawyer Kansas City—everyone needs reassurance. Hope you find balance soon, and we’ll be here when you’re ready. Your updates mean a lot, even if they’re brief. Keep going at your pace!
