Quick New Year and Treasure Article Update

December 27, 2021

Christmas is over. With just one week left before the new year, I’m back at the grindstone. And I’ve got a few little news items to share.

First, the second part of that two-part treasure thing? It’s coming this week for Patrons, but probably Thursday and not Wednesday. It’s grown a bit in scope. Non-Patrons will be able to read it next week on Wednesday as usual.

Second, the second part of that two-part treasure thing? It’s grown a bit in scope. What started as a simple complete rewrite of the DMG rules for valuing, appraising, and selling treasure has become two different, but similar sets of rules for valuing, appraising, and selling treasure. One’s for GMs who like simple guidelines and quick resolutions and one’s for GMs who like throwing fistfuls of dice to resolve everything. Also, I kind of rewrote all the random treasure tables — just the money and valuables s$&%, not magical items — in the DMG based on my own tiers of play. All that’s way more than I can put in one article.

Especially because I also figured it’d be helpful to have a big list of trade goods, gems, and art objects to pull ideas from.

So, now part two’s a two-parter on its own. The first part — the one coming this week — is the rules for valuing, appraising, and selling treasure. The second part — coming next week — is the rules for stocking adventures with treasure.

Third, remember my Patreon pledge levels are changing on January 1 as I explained in my Big December Update. Remember the change won’t affect anyone already supporting me. Just folks who start supporting me or change their support levels after the new year.

Fourth and finally, if you want to help keep this site on the net, but don’t want to make regular pledges, check out my new Support Page for other ways to help out.
