May 2022 Angry Update

May 2, 2022

Yo,

It’s update time again. At least, it was supposed to be. Because I thought I had some big news to update y’all on. And those who heard the Live Chats know at least some of it. But there were some landmines in my e-mail box this morning and they’ve thrown a couple of big, exciting developments into uncertainty. And because other developments are hinging on those, suddenly, I’ve got nothing I feel safe saying. Except for some behind-the-scenes crap you won’t care about and a revised content schedule.

Tell you what, I’m just going to publish the content schedule and then babble about a few other little things. We’ll see what One Draft Angry has to say.

Content Schedule

Last month, I put out a content schedule presenting the articles I intended to write for the next ten weeks. And then I f$&%ed it up by writing the wrong article, throwing it, and writing a different wrong article. As I result — and because I’ve got an article that needs some more time in the oven — I’ve revised the release schedule a little. The same topics are still there. Just the order is changed.

There’s a gap before the first article hits early access and general release, but that’s because I’m going away for a few days on a trip I’ve had planned for a few months. And note that the final article releases on a Tuesday into early access to also facilitate that travel.

Mostly Monthly Live Chat

So, I’ve got a Live Chat scheduled. I’m only doing one this month and it’s at the usual time. That’s just how it worked out in my schedule this month. In June, I’ll probably do a mid-afternoon one.

Schedule monologue topics include

  • Angry Goes to the Midwest Gaming Classic
  • Angry Plays the Cuphead Dice Game

If you want to propose different topics or pre-ask questions for the Q/A portion, submit them as a Patreon comment below.

Deputy Producer

Going forward, at the start of each live event — live chat, live proofreadaloud, whatever — I’m going to deputize one volunteer from the audience — who pledges to stick out the whole event — as a deputy producer. Their only job will be to provide a couple of warnings to keep me on time and to threaten me with a kill switch if I don’t stop talking at the right time.

Much as I love hanging out and chatting, the fact that I can’t keep to a scheduled end time is starting to affect my professional and personal life. Moreover, it’s the main thing keeping me from doing more live events. I’d do impromptu, half-hour chats if I believed I could actually stop after a half hour.

Live Proofreadalouds

Patrons are familiar with my Proofreadalouds. That’s where I proofread an article out loud to make sure it reads well and that I didn’t screw anything up. And record it. And share the recording as bonus patron content. Well, I’ve started this new thing where I also sometimes — randomly — announce that I’m about to do a recording and open a live Discord voice stream so people can listen. And then I stick around for anywhere between thirty minutes and infinity hours doing responding to questions and comments once the recording’s done.

With this whole Deputy Producer thing, I feel safer doing those more often. So I will probably start doing more toward the end of the month. But I wouldn’t expect any in the next two weeks.

Other Projects

So, I’ve got Theme Packs and I’ve got the Tension Dice Kickstarter and there’s also rumors of a book deal — maybe a two-book deal — and republication of Fall of Silverpine Watch and the potential for a recorded or streamed three-session one-shot-adventure later in the year and also there’s this SMAFARGE! thing some of you have heard about. I wanted to report on some of that stuff. But as of this morning, some uncertainty’s been thrown my way regarding a couple of those projects that’s going to affect whether certain things happen and when they do.

So, expect a supplemental update soon about these various things. But, for another little while, I’ve got to keep things close to the vest. How things shake out after a meeting later this week’s going to determine a lot of what happens when. The Theme Packs are still coming. The Tension Dice Kickstarter is still coming. Likely, it’s going to happen in July and not June. SMAFARGE! is the reason I’m doing everything I do. So that’s always going to be the end goal. Everything else is a little up in the air and the timeline for stuff is a little uncertain again.
